Replacement roof glazing for Conservatories

Looking to replace your conservatory with a new glass roof or considering a tiled roof with glazing inserts?  Read the options of replacement glazing from Clearview.
Self cleaning glass

Self Cleaning Glass isn’t a new innovation and has actually been around for quite some time. Revolutionary in every sense, it contains a special coating that’s carefully applied to the glass during the molten stage of the manufacturing process.

Upon the unit’s completion and integration into a roof or window, the coating triggers into action once exposed to UV natural light and gradually breaks down any dirt or organic matter that builds up on the outer surface. It’s purposely smooth so that rainwater isn’t able to form and just runs off the surface, removing any organic matter with it as it does so.

Easy cleaning glass

Easy Cleaning Glass is also far from new and quite different from Self Cleaning Glass in various respects. Application of the coating only takes place after the manufacturing of the glass. If you look into the product’s statistics, they tell you that Easy Cleaning Glass slightly outperforms Self Cleaning Glass in the areas of U-Value and Solar Heat Reflection.

The biggest differentiator is that the coating in Easy Cleaning Glass does not actively react to natural light to break down any surface matter, but it is similarly smooth to prevent the gathering of water droplets on the surface which again removes whatever dirt there is along with it.

A comparison of roof glazing…

The glass roof is defined by its elegant, crisp finish and offers total clarity, as well as restricting the volume of noise created by falling rain and hail. Be assured that this in no way sacrifices thermal control or insulation.

Use the following metrics to understand the qualities of each glazing option:

U-Value – Symbolising the level of internal heat loss in cooler spells. The lower the U-Value, the better the insulation.

Solar Heat Reflection – This indicates the percentage of total solar energy (heat from the sun) intercepted from travelling through the glass.

Light Transmission – Conveys the percentage of visible light transmitted directly through the glass.

Taking the heat out of summer

Lengthy exposure to searing heat and sunlight is a recipe for overheating in some conservatories and it makes for unpleasant living conditions.

To combat this common scenario, the technically advanced coatings in our glasses deflect away solar heat and in doing so, reduce how much energy passes through the roof.

Glare will be kept out too, enabling you to enjoy a light and airy atmosphere that’s calm and relaxed enough for you to properly switch off.

Suitably warm in winter

The effects of climate change have reinforced the importance of energy saving wherever possible and our specialist glass roofing products fulfil this need with their high performance Low Emissivity glass.

Each coating is transparent and designed to do two contrasting roles – reflect heat produced internally by a boiler back into the space, whilst also utilising the heat and light produced by the sun (passive solar heat gain) and filtering it in to create energy efficient surroundings.

Argon gas is inserted into the roof units to magnify thermal performance further and bring down the overall ‘U’ value.

Goodbye to unwanted noise

Traditional lightweight polycarbonate roofing systems on older conservatories are notoriously poor for sound insulation – just the very lightest rainfall can cause a serious din when it collides with the hollow plastic.

By and large, Clearview relies on usage of two 4mm toughened glass panes with an argon gas filled cavity to keep noise levels caused by rainfall to a minimum.
