Roof glazing from Clearview

To fully appreciate the unique views of the ever-changing skies above from the comfort of your new living space, a glass roof is the obvious choice.

Roof glazing - self cleaning glass

“Self” Cleaning Glass has been used for a number of years now, this cutting edge product has a coating applied to the glass at the molten stage of the manufacturing process. Once the unit is complete and installed in the roof or window this coating activates itself by reacting to UV natural light, over time, this enables the coating to break down organic matter / dirt that finds its way onto the external surface. This same coating is also extremely smooth, so much so that any droplets of rain/ water cannot form on the glass they simply sheet off from the surface taking the broken down organic matter away at the same time.

It is well to note that this cutting edge product will still need manually cleaning periodically to take away any larger more stubborn deposits of various kinds. Cleaning should be done with warm soapy water using a non abrasive soft brush or cloth. Solvents or hard detergents should not be used. Rinsing should also mimic the effect of rain rather than a jet from a hose. Jet washers must not be used.

Roof glazing - easy cleaning glass

“Easy” Cleaning Glass has also been used for a number of years but differs from “Self” cleaning glass. The coating to this product is applied after the glass has been manufactured. It can be noted from the performance statistics that this product performs a little better when it comes to U- Value and Solar Heat Reflection than “Self” cleaning glass.

This products fundamental difference is that the coating does not actively interact with natural daylight to break down any matter that forms on the surface, it is however extremely smooth which again prevents water droplets forming on the surface which in turn is very effective at washing away a large majority of organic matter / dirt with it.

Due to the differences between the two products “Easy” cleaning glass will requires more manual cleaning than “Self” cleaning glass. The cleaning process should be carried out the same way.

Roof glazing - compare the qualities...

The crisp and sophisticated finish of a glass roof facilitates a clear outlook and also minimises the noise impact of rain and hail. Of course, none of these added benefits come at the expense of excellent thermal control and insulation.

The qualities of each glass featured by these three handy figures shown for each product:

U-Value – A measure of internal heat loss during cooler periods. The lower the number, the greater the insulation.

Solar Heat Reflection – This is the percentage of total solar energy (or heat from the sun) prevented from passing through the glass.

Light Transmission – This is the percentage of visible light directly transmitted through the glass.

Glass roofs - cooler in summer

All day long exposure to direct sunlight leaves a room susceptible to overheating and stuffiness, creating an unsuitable environment for relaxation.

Our technically advanced coatings work to combat this heat build up by reflecting solar heat, thus reducing the amount of energy able to pass through the roof.

It also reduces unwanted glare whilst still allowing your conservatory to remain light and airy giving a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

Glass roofs - warmer in winter

Energy saving is important, so most of our specialist roof glass products are combined with a high performance Low Emissivity glass.

Clear in appearance, this transparent coating reflects radiated heat from fires or radiators back into the room whilst at the same time allowing free heat and light from the sun (passive solar heat gain) to pass through the glass contributing to the overall energy efficiency of
your living space.

We also fill our roof units with argon gas to further increase the thermal performance and lower the overall ‘U’ value.

Glass roofs - hear the difference

Conventional lightweight roofing products such as polycarbonate roofs are by there make up poor sound insulators. Even the lightest rainfall will create substantial noise levels when falling onto a hollow plastic roof system.

Generally, we use two 4mm toughened glass panes with an argon gas filled cavity which is considerably better at reducing noise levels when it rains.
