Secure Upgrades For National Home Security Month

Secure Upgrades For National Home Security Month

Burglars couldn’t be happier that the nights are closing in quickly as the probability of them successfully breaking into homes without being apprehended is much lower than it would be during lighter evenings.

It appears that British homeowners are well aware of this if research by security experts, ADT, is to be believed – they found that 76.5% of them are more conscious of home security in autumn. However, this isn’t reflected in the country’s burglary rates, which are much higher than you would want them to be.

You can get information of how safe your neighbourhood is via the National Home Security Month website (just use the postcode checker), an annual scheme that’s 10-years-old this year and takes place every October.

If the stats suggest your neighbourhood isn’t as safe as you thought or hoped, rely on our product range to shore up your home’s security.

Most burglars head straight for doors when attempting to access properties, backed up by info from the ONS, showing that 76% of domestic burglaries in England and Wales occur in such fashion.

They like to try and snap a lock to get a door open. To check if you could be the next victim of lock snapping, see if your door cylinders protrude more than the depth of a £1 coin. If they do, they’re not secure enough.

A Forté composite door would be a worthy replacement door for your front or back entrances, coming with a resilient frame, high security multi-point lock, and anti-crowbar hinges.

A decent percentage of burglaries also involve burglars accessing homes through a window – 30% (source: ONS).

Frail windows get levered open with chisels, bars, and screwdrivers, or sometimes a thief will manage to force the glazed unit out of them. They would be wasting their time trying to do any of that if you have our Extreme UPVC windows.

The Extreme design includes a 9-point locking system, two high compression bolts to give you 360-degree solidity, and Herculean hinges. Because Extreme windows are internally beaded, you also can’t remove the glass from outside. If aluminium frames are more your thing, our Eclipse aluminium collection shares many of the same secure features.

Living Spaces

When they can’t find a way past windows and doors, a burglar’s next move may be to see if they can break-in via a conservatory or orangery.
