Energy Supplier Cuts Its Prices In Time For Christmas

Many people reading this story will be left rubbing their eyes in amazement but it is true, Co-Operative Energy have announced a 2 per cent reduction in electricity prices. Taking effect from 21st December, the news comes as a pleasant surprise as five of our six major energy suppliers have recently raised their prices from anything between 6 and eleven per cent.

Co-operative Energy’s Nigel Mason said: “Unlike our competitors, we are not driven by a need to make profits for external stakeholders and we pledge to offer a fair and transparent price for all our customers. Wholesale electricity costs have come down and we were keen to ensure this was reflected in customers’ bills as soon as possible.”

This announcement is definitely an exception as further price rises are expected in the New Year including one from E.ON who have promised not to up prices for the rest of 2012 but who are almost certain to do so at the beginning of 2013.

Year on year, since 2007 energy bills have risen by over £100 each time. The average annual bill totalled around £750 in 2007, whereas it now stands at over £1,300 and things are only expected to get worse over the coming years.
