How Colour Can Be Used To Liven Up Your Home

It’s not too much longer until the clocks go forward an hour, which you will be pleased about if you love the natural light of the sun filling your home.

ENHANCE YOUR HOME

When it does this, our homes feel so much more invigorated and inviting. But you don’t have to solely rely on the sun for this, as you could always use colour for the same kind of impact.  Here’s how to give your living space the colour that it perhaps currently lacks.

Bright-coloured windows & doors

The power of colour cannot be overstated. It has the ability to lift your mood, make rooms feel deceivingly spacious and add a bold effect to them.

As they’re a big focal point of your house, updating your existing windows and doors and exchanging them for more vibrantly-coloured windows and doors would be a good move, or you could just install a new window treatment e.g. patterned curtains or striking blinds.

The coldness of white won’t exude warmth, but a red hue like mahogany definitely would, particularly in the winter, making it a colour option to consider for a window or door finish.

Brightly-coloured paint

Applying a lick of paint to things can often make a world of difference. You might have an old TV stand that a new colour would refresh or maybe a feature wall is crying out for a colour of some kind.

Locating some great new colours is best done by analysing the colour wheel, which will help you identify colours that go well together – very rarely will a bright blue mix well with a screaming yellow, just to warn you.

Colours that tend to be harmonious will typically be adjacent on the colour spectrum, with blue, green and cyan being great examples, three colours that would create a calm atmosphere in most spaces.

Bright accessories

You don’t have to commit to a drastic change in colour scheme and can just do it subtly instead with your various home accessories, such as cushions, blankets and rugs.

These can easily be replaced or rotated when you want to change colour again, a far easier job than when you go to great expense to employ a completely new theme that a few months later you grow tired of.
