A solid tiled roof adds a completely novel dimension
Our solid roofs for conservatories and orangeries are manufactured using the latest solid roof tile system and are a great way to revitalise your tired conservatory or orangery and restore your pride in it. Solid roofs are the perfect solution for creating extended comfort inside your conservatory or orangery regardless of the weather outside.
Instead of the traditional glazed or polycarbonate roof – a solid roof consists of tiles offering extra strength and durability. Our tiles are available in a wide variety of colours and finishes to match your home and you can even include glazed windows within your roof with our new UltraRoof system.
Opting for a solid tiled roof from Clearview provides many benefits…
For a conservatory or orangery to be fully functional throughout the year it needs to be properly insulated so that whenever you walk inside its glamorous confines it feels cosy. To get that feeling every time you utilise the space make sure that you ask us to fit a solid roof to the top of the design as it contains a rigid insulation board and insulated plywood.
Add a touch of luxury to your conservatory…
We call it a solid roof for a reason. It’s because it has a solid feel that will spread to the entire interior of your conservatory or orangery so that it forever feels energy efficient and adds huge amounts of warmth. Because of its design some natural light will be lost but you can still expect to feel bright and spacious due to the windows and doors. Much time and effort has been dedicated towards its appearance so that it exceeds the look of the roof that it is replacing.

We offer two distinct tile solutions
The lightweight tile we supply for conservatories and orangeries is way lighter than a traditional roofing material and needs hardly any maintenance.
Ideal for designs with a low-pitched roof, our lightweight slates are a fantastic alternative to a traditional slate roof and have a more timeless look.
Replace your old window frames too
Some companies only give you access to a very small choice of coloured finishes for their UPVC conservatories, but Clearview has a high quantity of them available.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy, from Chartwell Green to Hazy Grey. You will be blown away by quite how many colour options there are.
All our powder coated aluminium finishes are of the highest quality, and are fade resistant...
The 11-stage powder coating process that contemporary Aluminium is subject to, induces strong paint adhesions and results in a true colour which is sheer quality to the look and touch.
Similarly contemporary Aluminium woodgrain finishes benefit from a unique process known as sublimation which results in Walnut, Rosewood or Oak appearances which are utterly convincing and second only to real wood itself.
Beautiful window handles for your frames…
Our craftspeople put an immense amount of time, effort, and detail into all our traditional and contemporary-styled handles, and you will get a kick out of using them when closing and opening your windows.
The windows will be securely fastened when locked due to the in-built secure locking system.

Choose between a timber or plasterboard internal finish...
For those looking to play it safe, with a preference for an internal finish that has endured the passage of time then painted plasterboard is most definitely the best option. However, for a finish that is the total antithesis of painted plasterboard have a look into a timber clad finish as it will add richness and texture to the inside of the building. During the winter months you will really notice it come to the fore, especially if you also have centre pivot timber roof window included to give off that ‘cabin-style’ effect.

How will a tiled roof benefit my extension?
A tiled roof will leave your extension looking and feeling new again.
The weather will no longer find its way into your extension, as it so often does into older designs with outdated roofing systems, ending any intolerable chill or heat during the winter and summer months. A consistently comfortable climate is what you will experience whenever you fancy spending time in it, saving you from having to keep relying on your boiler or any air conditioning system to warm or cool it down.
Noise can’t get in as easily through the airtight system either as it can absorb much of it, resulting in the creation of a more peaceful indoor environment.
Solid roofs can be added retrospectively to existing conservatories and when they are, it gives them renewed visual appeal thanks to the convincingly authentic tiles and slates that have a hard-wearing composition and will neither crack or break. Maintaining these faux but staggeringly realistic tiles and slates is an infrequent task.
How long does it take to replace a conservatory roof with a tiled one?
Conservatory roof replacements take no time at all.
You want as little upheaval and disruption at your home as possible when you choose to have your old conservatory roof taken out and replaced with a tiled roof. We want that too and prefabricate much of the tiled roof system to expedite the final installation so that we can swiftly be in and away from your property.
How long we need to complete the project rests on the size of the conservatory and selected roof and also whether any plastering or electrical work needs doing, but most solid roof jobs are done and dusted within no more than a week.
A single day is usually enough to ensure the new roof is watertight.
Once we have consulted together and know more about what the project will entail, we will give you a precise timescale.
Can I add a tiled roof to any extension?
An adaptable roofing system that’s compatible with all extension types.
Every customer who’s either in ownership of an extension or looking to buy one will be pleased to discover that Clearview can fit a tiled roof to new and existing extensions of all shapes, sizes, and styles.
Our skilled craftspeople have the ability to produce bespoke, made-to-measure replacement roof solutions for designs like Victorian, Edwardian, and Gable conservatories, and a whole lot more, to magnify their appearance and thermal performance.
Planning permission isn’t normally required in the case of replacement roof projects, whatever form of extension is having a solid roof upgrade, but it must still comply with building regulations to be lawful.
Do I need planning permission to add a tiled roof?
Planning permission – is it strictly necessary for solid tiled roof installations?
A “change of use” occurs when a solid tiled roof is replacing a glass roof system as what was formerly classified as a temporary conservatory extension then becomes a permanent conservatory extension, and this can require a planning application.
You may also be ordered by your local Building Control Officer to alter the conservatory design upon a “change of use” with the implementation of new ventilation e.g., roof and trickle vents.
It is imperative that the solid tiled roof and the supporting structural elements also obey building regulations so that you don’t run into trouble with building control.
Don’t confuse planning permission for Building Regulatory Approval, the latter being a requirement if replacing a translucent roof with a solid roof.
One other thing to be aware of is the withdrawal of Permitted Development Rights. If you had them at the time of the conservatory first being built, but they have since been removed, planning permission needs to be obtained.
Can I add skylights to my new roof?
Rely on skylights to power natural light inside.
We’re asked a lot if a solid roof installation can lead to a loss of natural light. It can, but in the majority of instances, a very marginal diminishing of light transference occurs, so you hardly notice it.
However, if it’s a real concern for you that the tiniest bit of light will be lost, you can always have skylights fixed into the roof for a reliable light source.
To supplement the light that enters through these roof windows, you could install mirrors to reflect light around the room, have spotlights inserted into the inside of the roof, and implement a light decor throughout.
The placement of the skylights and direction they face will be dependent on how much natural light you wish the extension to receive and at what time of day you want to be most exposed to it.
Will a solid roof add value to my home?
Solid roofs can add value and be a selling-point of a house.
You wouldn’t be best impressed if you did a house viewing of a property with a conservatory and the extended space was unpleasantly cold or suffered from extreme heat. Unless you’re prepared to dip into your finances to fix the issue, you may well decide to give it a wide berth and look elsewhere.
Conservatories like this need proper insulation and a solid roof provides it through every season, raising their appeal as then you know you can utilise such spaces come what may. So, if a chill comes over you when in your conservatory in winter or you get a serious sweat in summer inside its surroundings, you want to make the switch to a solid roof, an enhancement that will give your home greater sellability.
