FENSA is a name you may have come across while watching TV as the GGF (Glass and Glazing Federation) Group company has recently started advertising as they seek to raise awareness of the scheme amongst homeowners and the importance of choosing a FENSA approved installer.

The purpose of the ad is to also inform homeowners who need a window or door replacement, that only a FENSA approved installer can provide them with a FENSA certificate (an important document) at the conclusion of the work.

What exactly is FENSA?

FENSA is a Competent Person Scheme and stands for the Fenestration Self Assessment Scheme, established in 2002 by the GGF.

The role of FENSA is to monitor the performance standards of window and door specialists, and make sure that all of the work they do complies with current building regulations.

What did Clearview have to do to become a FENSA member?

Any company that wishes to become a FENSA member has to come through various rigorous assessments overseen by FENSA’s experienced assessment team. Clearview was no different and passed them all with flying colours. It was then that we were given full accredited membership of FENSA.

To remain a FENSA member, Clearview has to sustain these standards, otherwise FENSA are entitled to strip us of our membership status. Being a FENSA member is a huge selling-point for Clearview, so we do everything we possibly can to make sure this will never happen.

Why is a FENSA certificate so important?

The FENSA certificate handed to you by a FENSA member once they have fitted and your new windows or doors confirms that the installation is certified and is in line with building regulations.

This certificate should be stored in a safe place as you will need to pass it onto the next owner of your home if you ever sell your property. This proves to them that your windows and / or doors satisfy the rules.

If you misplace the certificate, you can order a replacement certificate from FENSA for a small fee. The certificate also includes a 10 year Insurance Backed Guarantee which covers the window and / or door product if the installer ceases trading during that period.
